The Everybody Wins Power Lunch program at Garrison Elementary School—a small, neighborhood public school in the Shaw/Logan Circle neighborhood of DC—is so popular that many students ask to attend a second reading session each week. For these children, having one-on-one time with a Reading Mentor is often the highlight of their day. Like the students themselves, Garrison’s Reading Mentors come from a wide range of backgrounds, including the non-profit sector, government agencies, law firms, and the sports and entertainment industry. Garrison even has the reigning Mrs. Columbia Heights DC America 2018, Terri Ann Confair, as a Reading Mentor!
All this wouldn’t be possible without the support of the A. James and Alice B. Clark Foundation (“Clark Foundation”). With the generous support of the Clark Foundation, the Power Lunch program at Garrison has served over 640 children, distributed 2,500 books, and helped promote a love of reading among its students. A long-time partner of EWDC, the Clark Foundation has enriched the lives of more than a thousand students in the DC metro area through its support of the Power Lunch program.
Founded over 30 years ago, the Clark Foundation helps provide a better quality of life to underserved communities across the DC metro area through its charitable giving and support of educational and community-based programs. EWDC is proud to partner with the Clark Foundation and have its support at Garrison Elementary as a Lead Corporate Mentor Sponsor.
