The 11th annual Lawyers for Literacy event graciously hosted at Kirkland & Ellis brought together many of the DC area’s leading firms for an incredible night of trivia and entertainment to benefit Everybody Wins DC. Mark Young, EWDC Board Chair, kicked off the event with a heartfelt message in which he expressed his gratitude to all those who attended and encouraged everyone to become a Reading Mentor.
Ten law firms competed for the coveted title LLM “Litterae Magister” (Master of Literacy). The Environmental team at Kirkland & Ellis were eager to defend their title and were not going to hand the trophy over without a fight! After 4 rounds of trivia delivered by Quiz Master Neal Racioppo, it came down to one question: What is the most cultivated fruit in the world?
After much deliberation, our emcee verified the answer with multiple sources and awarded points accordingly to the teams that wrote down “bananas.” All the teams played extremely well, but there can only be one Master of Literacy! Akin Gump (Can’t Stump the Gump) came in 3rd, DLA Piper (Doughnut Lover’s Anonymous) came in 2nd, but victory went once again to the Kirkland & Ellis Environmental team.
The fundraising aspect of the event however was no trivial matter, nearly doubling the amount raised last year! Thank you to everyone who supported the event. We hope to see you there again next year.
